Ashtown Castle, a tower house dating from the seventeenth century. However, it could be as old as the fifteenth.

It was hidden in the walls of a Georgian home that had been once owned by the Irish under-secretary. The castle was discovered when the house was demolished in late 1980s. Since then, it has been completely restored and is now open to visitors.

Ashtown Demesne is located around the castle and boasts many attractions. The walled kitchen garden is the most prominent, having been beautifully restored to its Victorian layout. You will also find woodland walks, picnic areas, and an accessible playground.

The Phoenix Park Visitor Centre is located adjacent to the castle and features an entertaining exhibit on the park's past from 3500 BC through the present. The visitor-centre grounds also have a charming restaurant.

The Victorian Kitchen Walled Garden is located next to the Visitor Centre and is currently under restoration. It is open daily from 10:00-16:00.

The visitor centre might be closed temporarily. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
