Dr. Burger is a professor at Georgetown University. As the Assistant Director of Office of Science and Technology Policy, he was also on the White House's detail. Prior to that, he was the Federal Communications Commission's CTO. Dr. Burger was a key contributor to Secure 5G and Beyond Act Implementation Plans. He also ensured funding for R&D and scaling 5G IoT and smart cities, as well supporting their CTO. His research and teaching focuses on cybersecurity, distributed computing and DLT. As an advisor to many companies, he also served as a member of corporate boards before he joined the government. He was previously the CTO of many public and private enterprise software and network equipment companies. Dr. Burger is the holder of over 20 patents. He has also published more than 20 IETF, 3GPP and W3C standards. Numerous industry associations boards were his responsibility. He is a Senior Member and a Distinguished member of the Association for Computing Machinery. He holds a PhD, MBA, SBEE and MBA from the Illinois Institute of Technology and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.
